Special Notice from AHSNH
At the 2007 Annual Meeting of the Association of Historical Societies of NH, the Association adopted an editorial policy for the E-ssociate as follows: The E-ssociate will include notices and news of its member societies and other information that may benefit the membership when space is available.
This policy will become effective in the spring of 2008. If would like to promote your 2008 event or programming through this online newsletter and you are not already a member of AHSNH , visit the website at http//:www.historicalsocietiesnh.org and click on the "Join Us" tab. Registration forms can be downloaded and mailed, along with your payment, to AHSNH, PMB 101, 26 So. Main St., Concord, NH 03301-4848. Dues are only $10 per year for organizations. This is an inexpensive way to get the word out to 400 plus organizations, agencies and individuals around the state, so sign up today!
EVENTS & EXHIBITS
1. From the Historical Society of Cheshire County
Thurs., Dec. 13 - April 12, 2008. New Exhibit: "From Monadnock to the Moon: Precision Technology for the World." The featured exhibit tells the story of the history and economic importance of the region's world class precision manufacturing sector. The Monadnock Region has been the site of precision manufacturing firms for over 170 years and continues today.
As part of this exhibit, The Mill Tapestry Project, a mural-sized traditional French tapestry designed by tapestry artist and independent scholar Patryc Wiggins, will be on display; the tapestry depicts the working heritage of the mill village of Guild where Wiggins grew up and where her family has lived for generations.

2. From the Enfield Shaker Museum
Sat., Dec. 1, 6:30pm. Holiday Dinner by Candlelight. Enjoy Executive Chef Betsy Oppenneer's holiday dinner at the Great Stone Dwelling by candlelight. $30/member; $35/nonmembers, includes a complementary glass of wine. Reservations required.
Sun., Dec. 16, 1:00pm. Cookie Fair. Take advantage of easy holiday shopping - select from 100 varieties of homemade cookies festively arranged for the season. Sold by the pound. Browse through a vast array of specialty items in the Museum Store. Free Admission.
Mon., Dec. 31, 11:30pm. Ring in the New Year. Ring in the New Year at the historic Great Stone Dwelling. Individuals may take turns ringing the bell, cast by George Holbrook, an apprentice of Paul Revere. Holiday refreshments will be served.

Thurs., Dec. 13, 7:30pm. Out from the Vault: Treasures of New Durham History. Presented by Cathy Orlowicz, New Durham Town Historian. Don't miss this rare opportunity to examine and discuss some of the most important documents and artifacts illustrating the town's history. For one evening only, these materials will be on public view before being returned to the vault. Attendees may also bring their own artifacts to discuss. Held at the New Durham Public Library. Both will be beautifully decorated in Victorian style. Take a horse-drawn wagon ride, watch will staff bake sugar cookies and see the Victorian era decorations, including an antique toy collection, visit the newly expanded museum shop. OTHER NOTICES
9. New Electronic Filing Requirements for Small Tax-Exempt Organizations. Beginning in 2008, small tax-exempt organizations that previously were not required to file returns may be required to file an annual electronic notice, Form 990-N, Electronic Notice (e-Postcard) for Tax-Exempt Organizations Not Required to file Form 990 or 990-EZ. The IRS and the NH State Attorney General's Office have sent out mailings regarding this issue. Please note: this new IRS requirement for the 501(c)(3) organizations who do not file the 990 must now file this new form or their tax exemption will be revoked.
