1.  From the American Independence Museum, Exeter:

Thurs., Sept. 17, 7pm.  7th Annual Constitution Forum.  Annual lecture focusing on current issues related to the US Constitution, joined by Richard A. Hesse, whose talk "Free Speech in a Free Society" is sponsored by the NH Humanities Council.  Free.

 

Sat., Sept. 26, 10-4.  5th Annual Museum Day.  Part of the Smithsonian Magazine celebration, attendees must present their Museum Day Admission Card that provides free admission for two people.

 

2. From the Centre Harbor Historical Society:

3. From the Historical Society of Cheshire County, Keene:

6.  From the Governor John Langdon House, Portsmouth:

7.  From the Hampton Historical Society:

Sat., Sept. 5, 12-3pm.  8th Annual Pig Roast.  Held on the grounds of the Tuck Museum, it is the major fundraiser for HHS and a good time for all.  Please join in the annual major fundraiser for HHS.

8.  From the Laconia Historical & Museum Society:

Fri., Sept. 11, 7pm.  Salvatore Basile Concert.  Co-sponsored by the NH Italian Cultural Club, a presentation by this Italian-American singer at the Belknap Mill, Laconia.  $10/member of LHMS or NH Lakes Region Italian Cultural Club.  Bonus:  Each ticket enters guest into a raffle featuring free membership to NHICG and a gift certificate for 2 to take Boston's North End Market tour with professional chef Michele Topo.  A 2nd raffle of the night features gift certificates to Abondante's Restaurant, Meredith, and Fratello's Restaurant, Laconia.  Raffle tickets $5@ or 3 for $10.

Tues., Sept. 1, 7:30pm. Horace Greeley, the Curious Candidate.   Christopher Emerson talks about this New Hampshire native, one of the most famous newspaper editors in the nation who ran against Ulysses S. 10.  From the Moultonborough Historical Society:

Mon., Sept. 14, 7pm.  A Woman That Keeps Good Orders.  A presentation by Plymouth State University professor Marcia Schmidt Blaine discusses Anne Jose Harvey who became the owner of a prominent Portsmouth, NH tavern when her husband died in 1736 and sets the background for an exploration of the world of female tavern keepers. 11.  From the Mount Kearsarge Indian Museum, Warner:

Tues., Sept. 15, 6:30pm.  Gary "Creekman" Sredzienski Concert.  Legendary accordion artist will demonstrate the diversity of the piano accordion with a wide variety of styles encompassing several continents for this benefit to raise funds for the museum.  A Pre-Concert Supper and Dessert Sale starts at 5:30pm featuring Native American style desserts.  Concert Admission:  $10/adult; $5/6-12 years; free/under 6.  Supper tickets:  $6/Adult; $4/child under 6 and includes entree, side, dessert & beverage, or desserts alone will be $2-$3.  Reservations recommended.  Call 603-456-2600 or visit http://www.indianmuseum.org.

 

12. From the NH Aviation Historical Society, Manchester:

Fri., Sept. 25. 20th Wings of Freedom Tour.  For the 4th year, the "Nine O Nine B-17 Flying Fortress" will return to the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, one of 110 stops in the nation for the tour.  Planes are expected to arrive at 1pm Friday will remain on display until Mon., Sept. 28, departing at about 1pm.  Public welcome to explore the aircraft or participate in a small ground tour.  $12/adult; $6/children under 12.  30 minute flights aboard one of the aircraft on Sat. & Sun. - Flights on the B-17 and B-24 are $425/pp and on the B-25  are $400/pp.

 

Fri., Sept. 18, 5:30pm.  Annual Gala.  At the Derryfield Country Club, featuring Marko the Magician.  Items are being sought for the silent auction; contact Carla Ferns at jcspringhill@tds.net.

13. From the NH Boat Museum, Wolfeboro:

Thurs., Sept. 17 - Sat., Sept. 19, 9-5.  Wolfeboro Vintage Raceboat Regatta.  Wolfeboro Bay will roar with the thunder of over 50 vintage raceboats from all over the US and Canada at this 6th biennial event. Demonstration laps will  be run on a one-mile oval course on the bay.  Spectators are invited to view the vintage boats close up in the pit area at the Wolfeboro Town Docks or out on the water in the center of the race course on board the Winnipesaukee Belle ($10 donation).  For a $100 donation, vintage race boat drivers will be giving rides on the course.  The public is also invited to attend the evening socials to meet the drivers and crews - Friday night at the Wolfeboro Inn and Saturday Night at the Awards Banquet held at the Wolfetrap, with dinner included for $45/pp.  For reservations, contact Registrar Gerri Prusko at 603-267-9075 or gprusko@vintagebookworm.com.  Want to volunteer and be part of this event?  Volunteer patrol boats and several dockside assignments are needed to be filled.  Call Ann Sprague at 603-569-4554 for more information.

NHHS is pleased to announce that retired US Sumpreme Court Justice David H. Souter has agreed to join its Board of Trustees and has made arrangements to donate his personal and professional papers to the Society's archives collection.
